Troubleshooting Bluetooth clock-in device pairing

Written by Fulvia Chesi

Sometimes, you might see error messages when pairing a Bluetooth clock-in device with a location, or the device might not appear in the list of available devices. This guide covers the most common issues and their solutions.

The Beacon or Spot is not detected during pairing

  • Check existing pairings: Ensure the Beacon/Spot isn't already paired with the same location or another location within your company. If it is, it won't show up in the list of available devices.

  • Check the power source: Verify the device is on. Remove any protective stickers that might prevent the batteries from making contact.

  • Check the battery: Ensure the battery isn't dead or damaged. A Beacon’s CR2477 battery lasts about 18 months and is replaceable. The Fluida Spot uses two AA alkaline batteries that last up to 5 years.

  • Check smartphone settings and app permissions:

    • Enable Bluetooth and GPS on your smartphone.

    • Make sure the Fluida app has permission to access these services.

  • Restart the device and the app: Remove and reinsert the batteries in the Bluetooth device, then force close and restart the Fluida app. Try pairing again.

💡 Tip: If you still can't pair the device, try using a different smartphone. Log into the Fluida app with your Administrator or Power User credentials and follow the installation guide.

Error: "An error occurred. Make sure Bluetooth and location services are enabled and try again"

Enable Bluetooth and Location (GPS) on your smartphone and check that the Fluida app has the necessary permissions.

Error: "Error pairing the device with the location. Restart it and try again"

Restart both the device and the app: remove and reinsert the batteries in the Bluetooth device, then close and restart the Fluida app. Try pairing again.

Error: "Communication problem with the smartphone's Bluetooth"

The Fluida app cannot properly communicate with your phone's Bluetooth.

Restart your smartphone and reinstall the Fluida app. If the error persists, contact support@fluida.io and mention this specific error message.

Error: "You can only activate Bluetooth clock-in from your smartphone"

You cannot pair a device from a PC. Please repeat the process using the Fluida app on your Android or iOS smartphone.

Error: "Error saving the device"

Contact support@fluida.io and mention this specific error message.

Error: "The device is already paired with the location; delete it before pairing again"

Normally, a Beacon or Spot already paired with a location won't appear in the available devices list. If the system fails to filter the device and it still appears, you will see this error because the device is already linked to that location.

The device is paired, but I cannot clock in

If the Beacon or Spot is correctly paired, Bluetooth and GPS are on, and the app has all the required permissions, but you still cannot clock in, please consult this guide.
